Peggy Rowe McKay is the Guidance Counselor at West Blocton Middle School. She previously worked as the Guidance Counselor for WBHS from 2001 - 2007. As a former Vocational Evaluator for the State of Alabama for five years, Peggy is able to discuss careers, college requirements, and the academics necessary to pursue the students' vocational interests. In addition, social skills as well as conflict resolution skills are emphasized in the school setting.
Mrs. McKay's interests include playing keyboards for Steel City Sound, a big band out of Birmingham. This band plays in the style of Glenn Miller. Steel City Sound has backed artists like: Chubby Checker, Billy Gilmore, Dee Dee Sharp, and others. Mrs. Mckay also has original piano music available on youtube and cd baby. In 1987, Mrs. McKay was employed in Atlanta, GA as the "Promotions Coordinator" for the Christian rock band, Mylon LeFevre and Broken Heart. Mrs. McKay coordinated promotional activities for concerts around the U.S. and Canada. This band won a Grammy award in 1988 and was nominated for another Grammy in 1990 for the "Best Duo or Group" award in the gospel category.
